our Polish builder put it up for around £4000 and It has a cathedral ceiling, all pine floors and walls, electric blinds, underfloor heating for all year use, The Plate rail is from the house interior and they are oak, salvaged from the original home built in 1949. the walls are covered in mementoes from a sporting life, marathon medals, rugby tours and plaques from clubs all over the world where I played, Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand, Cook Islands, USA and Canada, France, Boroughmuir, Selkirk to name a few but especially Twickenham where I played against The House of Lords and Commons.
The bookshelves contain sports books, cricket, baseball, football, many antique, the record/CD/cassette player can keep me happy whilst I write and sadly no room for a beer fridge but matrimonial deliveries are only 6 steps away. Shelves with photo albums but many photos framed and up on the wall, rugby teams, my Mum title winner and President of Yorkshire Ladies Lawn Bowling, I can turn from any chair and see friends and family. Shelves with a collection of Goss China, Tin Tin collectables, and especially a collection of model soldiers, including Churchill, the Queen - mounted and standing, George Patton, a student of history even a collection of Zulus attacking Rorke's Drift and Napoleons of course
The only thing wrong is that I should have made it bigger !
it all started when we lived in Toronto where the Blue Jays play baseball at the Skydome, houses there all have basements and in the one we had there was a big oil tank for the furnace and a workbench, me no handyman so firstly I cut the workbench to make it smaller so we could get the couch in and put a tv on the bench, also removing the oil tank as we were on gas, later still switching to a compact furnace and removing the gas one to get in a comfy wing chair and a large beer fridge, an overhead stereo system, seating capacity 4 !
When returning to my native York we obviously needed to recreate this fabulous shed where the walls were also covered in photos of friends and family and I would put staple tickets from big sports events to the wall.
People all loved the skyshed but are in total awe when seeing the Mel Tyler Lounge, do visit anytime you want, we serve wine as well as various brands of beer.
